A Day In The Life Of A G.L.O.R.Y. Girl: Miss DeVille!

Go to Miss DeVille's G.L.O.R.Y. profile.

May 5, 2007: You have reached the personal road diary of Miss DeVille! Now I have done one of these things before, but when I heard that I could do one for all of you here at G.L.O.R.Y., I was ecstatic! The Diary of a Female Super Fan...ring a bell? I think WWE Magazine forgot to mention a little something about me. Because this time it's going to be a little different. Kayla Sparks, my parents--who haven't seen me wrestling in a long time--and I all crammed into one car. Can we say "complete chaos"? Tonight we face The Soul Sisters, Jana and Luscious Latasha, for WSU in New Jersey. Here you will receive an hourly update in A Day In The Life Of Miss DeVille." Enjoy!

9:00 AM

Even a Diva Killa has to start the day with a good tooth brushing!

I am feeling a bit of resentment this morning and I'll tell you why. The sunshine just won't show up here in good ol' Schenectady, New York. Come on, it's May! Where's that sun already? Thank God I will be gone for the day. Maybe a much sunnier New Jersey waits for me. I finally get up after a good 20 minutes of procrastination. I shower, brush my teeth and start to make sure my gear bag has everything in it. Then Liz Savage calls me. Diva Killa Moms have to prep for big road trips too, you know! I answer the phone with severe morning voice. And what do you know? She's wide awake! She asks me what time I'll be heading out. She was excited because I was finally going to meet her boyfriend and friends. "12:30 I should be heading out", I mumble as I rub my eyes. I look at the clock and it reads 10:30am. That means I will have some time to do my daily exercises, which I usually don't have time to do before shows. 200 crunches, 100 squats, 30 minutes of cardio.

11:00 AM

I need my Dunkin Donuts! Okay...now I'm happy.

I give Kayla Sparks a call, figuring that since she's not picking me up she's probably sleeping in. She is, of course, wide awake! Figures. She's so energetic. I don't know where she gets all that energy from. But it sure keeps me long awake on road trips. As soon as I get off of the phone with Kayla, I hit up the local Dunkin Donuts. I NEED A COFFEE!!! For those who don't know, I am a coffee fiend. I need it everyday. And if I don't have it, I get a little cranky. The Saturday morning traffic seemed awful busy and as I was running with my tray of coffees, I dropped all the straws! The 'ol pack the bag routine. I hope I have everything! What's a Coolatta without a straw? Luckily I had some at home. So I got to enjoy my Coffee Coolatta to the fullest. Getting closer to take off time, I make sure once more that I have everything. And of course, I'm forgetting something...MY KNEE PADS! I am a very disorganized person, to the point where I need to sometimes make a check list. If I don't, I usually end up forgetting something.

12:32 PM

A kiss from Ace for good luck.

Before we leave, I make sure I give Ace a kiss. No...Ace isn't my boyfriend! He's my 13 year old pet cockatiel. He likes to give me a good luck kiss before I leave for a show. Before we get very far, Dad insists on putting gas in the tank. My parents barely get to see me wrestle anymore because I do so many shows that are far. There are not really any local wrestling shows around here anymore. So when I do a show, I am usually two hours or more away. And sometimes my parents can't always go to see me. Hey Dad! You're making your G.L.O.R.Y. debut and you turn your head? What's with that?! So I was very excited that they were coming! I told them I'd be doing a story on GloryWrestling.com, so my Dad proudly shouts: "Here...take a picture of me pumping gas!" I laugh and take the picture. My father is so proud of my wrestling. He used to bring me to my lessons several days a week and even inspired me to join. We share our love for wrestling together. He may just love wrestling more than me...but that can be debated! You went to Dunkin Donuts without me?! He definitely knows more than me. He does his homework on it, that's for sure. In the meantime, I shoot Kayla a call to tell her that we're on our way. Not even ten minutes later, we show up at her house. At first she smiles...then she gets in the back seat with me and notices I have a coffee. She picks up the cup and gives me this disgusted look. "YOU WENT TO DUNKIN DONUTS WITHOUT ME?!" She gasped. I shrugged. I knew I should have waited.

1:10 PM

We hit the highway at a sharp 1pm. Kayla shows me some tag team moves she found off of a DVD somewhere on her portable DVD player. We tried to think of things that we could do as a team. We spend a lot of time in the car on the way there doing that. That, and goofing off, of course! We love to put CDs in and sing at the top of our lungs. The music we usually jam out to is a wide range, from The Spice Girls to Motley Crue. But even jamming out and talking about our match repeatedly can get boring after a while. So after a long awkward period of highway- silence, Kayla comes up with a brilliant idea. Instead of cutting a promo as we usually would at WSU...let's do a rap! So that's it...I take out my pen and paper and we start writing a rap about our opponents that night, The Soul Sistas. My parents even helped with some parts actually. In fact, here's a little sneak preview of the "rude poem" in song that we wrote for our opponents...

"The name is DeVille!
And the name is Kayla!
Put us together
And we're The Diva Killaz!

Luscious Latasha
You're as short as a pickle
And was sup with Jana's boyfriend
Looking like Urckel?

You think you got soul?
Well, we do too!
Tonight your bout to feel
The soles of our shoes!

Now it's time
To call it a wrap
Were gonna take your soul
And shove it up your...*cover mouths*"

Like? Yeah, we were pretty bored. But later that night, it definitely came in handy!

2:30 PM

All the world's a stage? Well, at least this rest stop is!

We're about almost halfway there. Reciting the rap over and over, we find ourselves stumbling over the words. We can't quite get it right. Of course laughter over the silly lines we wrote had a little bit to do with it. But then my father comes up with a funny idea. "Hey, why don't you recite it in front of a rest stop? That way people you don't know will be watching." Kayla and I look at each other and agree that we'll do it. After all, we are a little on the crazy side anyway. This will be the perfect opportunity to practice it. So we stop at the nearest rest stop preparing to eat and, of course, rap! My dad gets out the camera and cues us when to start. And believe it or not, it wasn't really that bad...in fact, we nailed it! Arby's fans were the first to hear the now-famous "Urckel Pickle" rap. Of course people were staring at us and had no idea what on earth we were talking about. But that's okay, it's not like we'd ever see them again. And after all, who doesn't love humiliating pictures exclusively for G.L.O.R.Y. fans to see?! So we get some Arby's and try to eat it fast because time is not to mess with. Kayla and I are opposites before shows. I need to eat...she doesn't really like to eat before shows. I guess we all have our preferences. So around 2:40 we hit the road and continue to drive to our destination: Lodi, New Jersey.

4:08 PM

A big hug for fellow G.L.O.R.Y. Girl DellaMorte!

YAY!!! I spy with my little eye some sunshine! We make our arrival at the WSU building in Lodi, New Jersey. It's a beautiful day there and it automatically sets the mood for me. Today was going to be a great day, I could feel it already! We walk in and we see some familiar G.L.O.R.Y. faces such as Alere Little Feather, Foxy Dreams, Amber, etc. Kayla and I say hello to everyone and then notice that Luna and Iron Sheik are in attendance. The Diva Killaz just had to get a picture with the legendary Luna. We, of course, pay our respects to them. I'd lie if I said I wasn't a little "struck" to meet Iron Sheik. He has been one of my favorite old school heels. So that definitely was a treat for me! We then head to the locker room to get into our gear and cut our promos. Now it's time to do the rap in front of the camera. As many people watched, we started to go to town. I'm not going to lie...it was a bit nerve wrecking. But everyone seemed to have found it amusing! Not to mention we nailed it again. The camera guys loved it...so that was a plus.

5:02 PM

Lacing up the boots...and concentrating on the upcoming match.

The WSU All-Women's Wrestling Event kicks off! As I was lacing my boots up, getting ready for our tag team match against The Soul Sistas, none other than Missy Hyatt pulls me aside! She had a talk with me last show about her being concerned with the fate of The Diva Killaz as a tag team. This time, she was concerned about her sighting Kayla and my boyfriend. Now I appreciate Missy Hyatt's honesty and everything, but I had a talk with my good friend Kayla about this all and she denies it up and down. So we put all of our tension aside and go out to the ring to do some business. Just as the bell is about to ring, Jana grabs the mic and tells us that they are NOT going to wrestle us until we put a little soul in our lives and do a dance. So the funky music hits and I go into the center of the ring and show everyone what I've got...which consists of not much other than a leg pump and some robotic moves! Then I point to Kayla as she dances to the center of the ring and starts to do the Macarena. SEE? WHITE GIRLS CAN DANCE! Sort of. The Soul Sistas eventually stole the crowd as soon as they started to dance. Well it was pretty obvious to see The Soul Sistas won that round. But lets see if they had the "soul" to face one of the most-spiciest female tag teams in the Northeast! The Soul Sistas tried to psych us out before the match started. It didn't work! We start it with Luscious Latasha and myself. We then did a little bit of chaining that turned into her tackling me down...but if you think this is where I explain the whole damn match to you, you can think again! Go to www.WSUwrestling.com to buy the DVD if you wanna see it. I promise you that you will not be disappointed with the show! I'll tell you this: there honestly was a lot on my mind that night after what Missy Hyatt had told me about Kayla...and unfortunately it caused me to not be there when Kayla needed me in the ring. It also cost us our match! When I saw that we lost, I immediately got in the ring to see if Kayla was okay...but she didn't seem too happy. She asked me where I was and all I could do was apologize up and down. I guess apologies are taken too lightly these days. All ended up swell though, and Kayla and I eventually hugged and knocked the tension out of our path again. Diva Killaz forever!

6:38 PM

Getting closer to the main event, there was an announcement about a "Beauty Contest" with contestants Luscious Latasha, Jana, vicious manager Liz Savage, Slim Jenkins and maybe a few other girls I have forgotten. (Please forgive me for being a bit punch drunk.) It was definitely fun to watch though. Not to mention the judge of the pageant: IRON SHEIK! As we watch the madness, Kayla and I sit it out for a little while and chat up with a few indy wrestlers you may know, Ken Scampi and Dan Barry. All in fun, we talk about the moon and the stars. I actually can't quite remember what we talked about because that whole period was a blur. It always is after a match. But I will tell you what was NOT a blur...Alicia vs. Luna! What an amazing match they had! I tip my hat to both of those ladies.

7:04 PM

The show is just about over, so it's time to pack up all of our things and say our goodbyes. It always sucks to leave a show because you say bye to some people without knowing when you will be seeing them again. After all, Kayla and I live up north near Albany, New York, which is quite far from all of the shows we do. One bad thing about long road trips...bad fast food and drinking out of cardboard cups. Okay. TWO bad things... It's nice to keep in contact with the ones you become good friends with. I talk to Liz Savage almost on a regular basis. DellaMorte and I are good friends as well, and it was great to see her again. Overall, I had a great time. You stop stressing how you are going to do with your match when you realize it's all about having fun out there. And that I did. Even though my performance may have not been at its best, I am still pleased with everything. Burger King was only a stop away. I tell ya, if there is ONE thing I hate about road trips...it's having to eat nasty food all day! Fast food is the only thing at pit stops and when you're hungry...you're hungry! So the weekends definitely put a dent in my diet!

8:35 PM

After a tough match, it was sleepy time as far as I was concerned...but Kayla had other ideas.

On the way home, it was kind of a quiet ride at first. I tried to zone out and get some sleep, but Kayla...she was on the hyper side. So it was hard to settle down. That's the difference between Kayla and me. After a show she is ready to take on the world. And for me...I'm just ready to go to bed! She kept talking: "Are ya asleep? DeVille? Ya sleeping yet? Hey, DeVille..." And she started with this poking stuff. Jabbing me with her finger. Poke, poke, poke! Hey! Hey DeVille. Are you sleeping? Asleep yet DeVille? Hey...ya asleep? So finally I take off my headphones and we play a game that's pretty popular with us on car rides: the "Wrestler Name Game". It's where you name a wrestler and take the last letter of their name and name a wrestler with that letter. My parents even joined in. My dad was doing good for a while but he kept naming people we didn't know from the early 70's! The game definitely made the time go by faster and before we knew it, we had arrived in Schenectady, New York. We dropped Kayla off around 9:30pm. I have to say, I was very excited at the time we were getting home. It was an early night for me. I usually don't get home from trips until after midnight. So tonight I was excited about getting some sleep!

9:43 PM

Finally...HOME!

We reach home! I got my things out of the trunk and thanked my parents for coming with me today. They had a blast and I was happy to have parents that support my wrestling so much. Tucking myself in my bed never felt so good! I put on the TV for a total of maybe five minutes and then zonked-out cold into dreamland. I guess falling asleep that easily proved what a great day it was!

Webmaster note: Miss DeVille's Diva Killa partner, Kayla Sparks, recorded a short video of this same road trip. Wanna see it? Kayla has posted it at YouTube, so you can just give a click here for all the Diva Killa road trip action!
