WSU Title Bout: Martinez vs. Savage
This past Saturday night in Deer Park, New York, WSU Champion Mercedes Martinez was scheduled to defend her title against G.L.O.R.Y. Girl Brooke Carter (a.k.a. Brittney Savage). But it turned out that things were quite a bit more complicated than a simple one-on-one competition. Ed Darcey was there to snap the action and report on what went down...
WSU Champion Mercedes Martinez, who is scheduled for a title defense against J-Cup and King/Queen Tournament winner Alicia this Saturday in Union City, has been defending her belt all over the Northeast recently. Martinez is not one to rest on her laurels, as evidenced by her recent elevation to #2 in the PWI Women's Rankings. Having been brutalized by Brittney Savage a scant seven days ago, the champ was looking for a measure of payback on Long Island. But the cunning young blonde vixen, Savage, had her own plan.
Originally scheduled as a one-on-one bull rope match, Savage insisted that before she would consent to such a match, Martinez would have to dispose of her cohorts Jana and Rick Cataldo. After a debilitating but successful tussle with Jana, Martinez eliminated her. Cataldo, realizing the position he was in, wisely took a powder and was counted out. That left the young blonde upstart to face Mercedes alone. While it would seem to be a mismatch, the sneaky blonde managed to keep the Champ at bay often...strangling her over the ropes and using other unethical tactics.
In the end, the fortitude, strength and experience of Martinez proved too much and Savage was defeated. However, who knows how much Mercedes' gruelling schedule in the last several weeks has taken out of her? Will the most recent PWI Women's #2 wrestler lose to the PWI #10 wrestler, Alicia? We will find out this Saturday in Union City, New Jersey.
