Does Size Matter? Maybe So...
Yesterday we asked if size mattered in professional wrestling. To prove that it didn't, we showed you some of the July 5th SHIMMER action featuring LuFisto and Cheerleader Melissa battling it out in Berwyn, Illinois. LuFisto more than held her own against her taller fellow G.L.O.R.Y. Girl in the match photos we saw in Tuesday's POD. But after seeing the action in today's POD...maybe we spoke to soon.
As the match progressed, Melissa's size advantage seemed to play a bigger and bigger role in the contest. When LuFisto tried to bring her opponent down with a flying scissor, Melissa caught the Canadian to short-circuit the maneuver. Lu's size disadvantage then became obvious as the Cheerleader proceeded to smash the blonde into the ringside railing. Sufficiently stunned, LuFisto was unable to prevent being hung upside down from the steel barricade...a makeshift Tree Of Woe, if you will. Melissa took full advantage of her defenseless foe and kicked away at the smaller girl. So much for showing some mercy!
Later, LuFisto found herself upside down again...this time slung across the back of the American who stunned the blonde by driving her to the mat with a high-impact, vertebrae-crunching drop.
So now we're not sure. Does size matter in the ring? Yesterday we were convinced that it didn't. But after today...we are not so certain!
But one thing we are certain of is that SHIMMER is one of the top female wrestling federations in the world right now. This LuFisto/Cheerleader Melissa match will be featured on their upcoming Volume 20 DVD release. Other G.L.O.R.Y. Girls in action on the same card included Ariel, Portia Perez, Allison Danger, Jennifer Blake and more. Sounds like a can't miss DVD that everyone would want to add to their wrestling collection.
