And oh-my, how they competed!

By now, you all know that "The Fabulous Firebird" Phoenix walked away as the first-ever G.L.O.R.Y. Girl Champion. But her road to the title was not an easy one. Here's a brief rundown of how the matches went down...

Allison Danger vs. Alicia: The first match on the card was the grudge fight between Allison Danger and Alicia...and this was a fight!

These two ladies had been good friends...that is, until Alicia roared onto the G.L.O.R.Y. scene and knocked Allison from the top of the G.L.O.R.Y. Girl standings a couple of months back. Allison was not very happy seeing that happen and she lobbied heavily for this match. Alicia answered the challenge without backing down one step.

Danger showed a mean streak in this match which surprised most every fan in the building. She pummelled the hometown favorite with everything from punches and stomps, to actually wiping the bottom of her wrestling boot across Alicia's face!

The interference of Allison's second--IWF's mean-tempered Roman--on her behalf certainly caused more problems for Alicia.

Still, the tough youngster held her ground and fought back effectively. The two ladies finally rolled through the ropes, out of the ring, and onto the arena floor...where they continued their brawl! The battle was so intense that they disregarded the referee's instructions to return to the ring. All they cared about at that point was dishing out punishment!

The referee had no choice but to disqualify both ladies, thus eliminating them from the chance to compete in the Fatal Four Way Final which had been planned to determine our champion.

The encounter led to a special challenge: A mixed tag match to be held later in the show, pitting Allison Danger and Roman against Alicia and her IWF partner, Damian Adams!

Ariel vs. Phoenix: If you were following the convention news on the G.L.O.R.Y. site leading up to the show, you know that Ariel contacted us and asked to be matched against "The Fabulous One". Talk about guts! And that's exactly what Ariel showed throughout this match.

After Phoenix jawed, bragged and praised herself on the mic, it came time to back-up her words. Ariel made her do just that. Anyone who thought this match was going to be a cakewalk for The Firebird was sorely mistaken.

Ariel impressed everyone at the show as she took all that Phoenix had and came back for more. It would have been easy for Ariel to simply throw in the towel after some of the punishment she absorbed at the hands of the AWF star, but she not only took it...she dished out some of her own. In fact, Ariel came close to a surprising upset on a couple of occassions!

But in the end, it was Phoenix who got the 1-2-3. Regardless of what she might say through her press agent, this was far from a cakewalk for the big-mouthed blonde.

Although she took the loss, Ariel left the ring with the respect and admiration of everyone who witnessed her performance. Without a doubt, this teen grappler is a star in the making.

Tiffani Monroe vs. Little Jeanne: Talk about confidence! Ms. Monroe entered the ring, got on the mic and proceeded to make some comments that certainly didn't sit well with Little Jeanne. Why would the Nevada Cowgirl go out of her way enrage a tough mat veteran like Jeanne?

Surprising to some, Tiffani backed-up her words as she took the fight right to her opponent. The technical work didn't last long as the match soon became more of a slugfest with both ladies letting fly with fists and kneelifts. How rough did these ladies get? Well, at one point, Tiffani simply held Jeanne down on the mat and wailed away with a volley of fists to the side of the brunette grappler's head!

In the end, Jeanne's experience won out over Ms. Monroe's cockiness as she planted her with a nice German Suplex to get the three-count. Although she took the loss, Tiffani hung tough with Jeanne for most of the match and proved that she's certainly capable of stepping through the ropes and competing with anyone in the business.

Sonya Blackhawk vs. Lady Vendetta: The feud that's been heating up the Midwest moved eastward Saturday as young upstart Sonya Blackhawk took on archenemy Lady Vendetta for the right to advance to the G.L.O.R.Y. Championship final.

Lady Vendetta climbed into the ring wearing a sexy, midriff-bearing top which was covered with skulls. Talk about sending a message to an opponent!

If she was worried, young Blackhawk certainly didn't show it as the match looked like it was going to be a technical battle early on. Sonya held her own as she caught her opponent with a cross body that almost got her the quick three-count. Sonya's counter of a Vendetta hip toss led to another near pin as the blonde grappler was forced to kick-out.

Sensing that she needed to turn the tide in her favor, Lady Vendetta went to what she does best: getting down and dirty!

A gouge of the eyes stopped the rookie redhead cold and put Vendetta in the driver's seat. Young Sonya took some nasty abuse as she was tossed around by her hair, leg dropped across the throat, and face smashed into the turnbuckles. Unconvinced that she had caused enough damage, Lady Vendetta went so far as to choke Sonya on the ring ropes!

With the fight taken out of her, Sonya was unable to keep herself from being planted hard into the mat by Vendetta's patented bodyslam/bodysplash combo. Three hand taps by the referee moved Vendetta on to the finals.

Valentina vs. Luxurious Lynne (Special Arm Wrestling Challenge): Luxurious Lynne was confident that she would easily win an arm wrestling contest against Valentina. The fact that Valentina wore an outfit which was nearly the same color as Lynne's dress made the luxurious arm wrestler even more determined to teach her opponent a lesson!

Evil Zebra, the special guest referee for this match, lost control over it right from the beginning. No sooner did he have the girls prepared to battle than Lynne decided she wasn't ready. The excuses were fast and furious. Lynne wasn't sure whether she wanted to use her left arm or her right arm. Then she didn't like the side of the table she was on. She couldn't get her hand just right. Maybe it was a psychological ploy to throw Valentina off. More likely, it was just Lynne being Lynne.

You'll have to see for yourself just how the match went down. It simply can't be described in words! Suffice to say that Valentina took the victory...and it didn't sit well with Lynne.

A catfight between the two ladies broke out...and where was Evil Zebra during all of this? Did he immediately jump in and try to separate the two G.L.O.R.Y. wildcats like any competent referee would? Noooo. He just sat back and watched!

Triple Threat Match: As winners of their singles matches, Phoenix and Vendetta waited in the ring for Little Jeanne to make her entrance for the final Triple Threat Match which would determine G.L.O.R.Y.'s first-ever champion. When Jeanne entered the ring, she immediately took to the mic and made a shocking announcement: She was giving up her spot in the finals to Ariel!

Phoenix was not a happy camper. She realized how tough an opponent Ariel was during their first match. She didn't seem very happy at the prospect of having to battle the teenager a second time!

Needless to say, the action between these three G.L.O.R.Y. ladies was intense and could barely be contained within the ropes, much less described in detail in this report.

Phoenix's strategy was evident early as she seemed content to form a pact with Vendetta in an attempt to eliminate Ariel from the match. Poor Ariel was in trouble early and often as the two blonde G.L.O.R.Y. grapplers worked her over. Ariel went from being attacked by Phoenix, to being mauled by Lady Vendetta, and back to being pummelled by The Fabulous Firebird.

It didn't look good for the former SCCW Women's champ as her more experienced opponents put her through the ringer. At one point, Phoenix distracted the referee while Vendetta viciously strangled Ariel on the lower rope. It looked like curtains for the youngster...but she surprised everyone by taking down Lady Vendetta from behind when the blonde veteran began arguing with Phoenix. A roll-up and pin eliminated Vendetta and left a rematch of the earlier battle: Phoenix vs. Ariel.

Unfortunately, Ariel was far less than 100% by this time. After her earlier contest with The Firebird, then bearing the brunt of Vendetta's and Phoenix's double-teaming brutality...the courageous young lady was at a severe disadvantage.

Phoenix gave it all she had in an attempt to take out her opponent early and win the title, but Ariel was not so easy to defeat. Numerous kickouts from pinning attempts, reversals, and skillful wrestling kept the rookie in it far longer than anyone anticipated. But the youngster could take only so many slams, tosses and chokes before her body simply couldn't take anymore.

Ariel finally succumbed to The Firebird's fabulous assault and found herself unable to kickout from a final pinning attempt. It wasn't easy, but Phoenix came out on top to take the first-ever G.L.O.R.Y. Girl Title!

While Phoenix may have won the match and the championship, it was Ariel who gained the respect and admiration of fans and fellow wrestlers alike for the courage she showed in pushing her opponents to the limit.

As much as John The WebMaster hated to do it, it was his duty to step through the ropes and present The Fabulous Firebird with the G.L.O.R.Y. Championship trophy. Before he could even make the presentation, Phoenix rudely grabbed the trophy and tried to wrench it from The WebMaster's hands. A brief struggle ended with the new champ in possession of the trophy...which she guarded closely, refusing to let anyone even touch the award!

Allison Danger & Roman vs. Alicia & Damian Adams (Special Challenge Mixed Tag Match): This match--which resulted from the double-disqualification of Allison and Alicia earlier in the day--turned out to be a real brawl with each lady resenting the fact that she was unable to compete for the G.L.O.R.Y. title.

The IWF men certainly took this match to heart as each battled to bring a victory to the win column of his partner. Roman and Damian held nothing back, and Alicia and Ms. Danger followed suit. The action was fast and furious as the grudges held by both teams were apparent to everyone watching.

Danger and Roman tried their best to put the loss on the less-experienced Alicia. Since there was no stipulation that "man must wrestle man" in this match, Alicia found herself in the ring with the much bigger Roman...one of IWF's biggest and nastiest wrestlers.

One thing in Alicia's favor was that the special guest referee for this match--top New Jersey wrestler Kevin Knight--kept the ring action under as much control as was humanly possible. If it weren't for Knight keeping a tight reign on Danger and Roman, the teenager would have been in serious trouble.

Although she took a nasty beating during much of the match, Alicia stunned the crowd when she planted Allison almost through the ring mat with a running powerbomb! The jarring blow took the wind out of the tough grappler and three seconds later, Alicia had her arm raised in victory!

G.L.O.R.Y.'s first-ever event proved many things...the most important being that these ladies can hold there own in the ring and be as competitive, skilled and entertaining as any male indy star or WWE Superstar you can name. While Phoenix may have walked away with the trophy, all of these ladies gave a great accounting of themselves.

The G.L.O.R.Y. Girls are definitely at the forefront of women's wrestling today and if you ever have the chance to see any of these ladies wrestling on a local show in your area, don't pass up the opportunity to see them live and in person.
